CHENNAI: During the current year, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will recruit about 1 lakh candidates for different posts against 23,500 persons recruited during 2010-2011, said its Chairman N.K. Raghupathy on Monday.
Briefing newsmen, he said that the Commission has fixed a target to recruit 1 lakh candidates, of which 70,000 were for the post of constables in all the Central Police Organisations (CPOs) including Assam Rifles and Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF) and 30,000 other jobs. SSC will offer jobs to 10,000 candidates from Tamil Nadu, of which 8,500 were for the post of constables.
Increased volume
“For the first two-and-a-half months, we received 12 lakh applications. Going by the trend, we expect to receive about 80 lakh applications. To handle the increased volume, we have decided to network all the nine regional offices in the country. The Southern Region consisting of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is the first region to be networked and the remaining eight regional offices would be connected with the main server by September 30. This will enable us to share data freely about registered applicants for any exam,” he said.
During 2010-11, SSC handled 68 lakh applications, marking an increase of two-and-a-half times over the previous year figure of 19 lakh and selected 23,500 candidates.
In the case of Southern Region, 1,191 candidates were recruited compared to 386 in the previous year. The recruitment processes were completed in six to 12 months' time.
Online applications
Having launched the online applications in January 2010, the SSC wants to conduct its first online examination during July. “But the trouble was getting 2,000 computers at the same time.”
The Southern Region became the third centre after Guwahati and New Delhi to bag the ISO 9001:2008 certification. This would enable them to focus on increasing customer satisfaction and continual improvement in their internal process, the officials said.
Ninety-seven candidates from Southern Region have been selected for Assam Rifles and 530 for ITBPF.
Medical exams
Medical exam for Assam Rifles will be held from June 20 at Dimapur (Nagaland). Medical exam for 143 candidates from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands will be held from June 20 to 24 at Madurai and for those from Andhra Pradesh at Hyderabad from June 20 to July 5.
Written examination results for Constables (general duty) recruitment for CPOs such as CRPF, CISF, BSF and SSB) will be announced by end-June and medical exam are scheduled to commence during the third week of July.
